“Finally, a Kenyan board game where ‘school bus,’ ‘Weetabix,’ and ‘KICC’ are winning answers, because childhood should feel like home.”
Every parent in Kenya knows the struggle: you want quality family time that’s educational, engaging, and authentically Kenyan, but most games either talk down to kids or reference things they’ve never experienced. “What’s a fire hydrant, Mum?” your 8-year-old asks, staring at an imported board game. You explain it’s that red thing in American movies. They’ve never seen one in real life.
Enter 50-50 Kids Edition, the proudly Kenyan board game that finally gets it right. Created by the makers of the beloved adult 50-50 game, this kids’ version celebrates childhood in Kenya with words like “Daktari,” “Maziwa,” “Nyama Choma,” and places like KICC that children actually know and experience.
It’s team-based, fast-paced, educational, and most importantly: it makes learning feel like the best kind of fun.
Game Components
- 100 double-sided cards (5 words each side = 1,000 words total!)
- 50 Report Cards with life lessons
- Playing game board
- 5 player tokens
- 50-second timer (the perfect pressure cooker)
- Playing dice
- Pencil
- 100-page notepad for scoring

Setting Up the Game
- Step 1: Form Teams – This works best with up to 5 teams, each with at least 2 players. Perfect for siblings, cousins, or friends playing together.
- Step 2: Prepare the Board – Shuffle word cards into one pile. Shuffle Report Cards and place them on the designated board space. Each team chooses a token and places it on Start.
- Step 3: Decide First Player – Choose who goes first (youngest player is traditional, but you can decide however works for your family).
Playing Your Turn
- Roll and Move: Player rolls the dice and moves their token forward by the number shown.
- Landing on Red Squares: This is where the magic happens! The player becomes the Describer, and their teammates become the Guessers.
The 50-Second Challenge:
- Describer picks a card showing 5 words
- Flips the 50-second timer
- Uses creative explanations to help their team guess as many words as possible
- Cannot use the actual word or very close clues (no saying “mat” for “matatu”!)
- Each correct guess = 10 points
Landing on Report Card Spaces:
Draw the top Report Card and follow instructions. These teach life lessons:
- Positive behaviors (helping at home, sharing, being kind) = bonus points
- Not-so-great choices (being rude, refusing to help) = point deductions

Why Parents and Kids Will Love This Game:
- For Kids: It’s Just Pure Fun: The 50-second timer creates exciting pressure. Working in teams makes shy kids braver. Describing familiar Kenyan things feels natural and confidence-building. The Report Cards add surprise elements keeping every game fresh.
- For Parents: It’s Stealth Education: While kids play, they’re expanding vocabulary, practicing public speaking, learning teamwork, understanding consequences, developing creativity, and staying engaged without screens.
- For Families: It’s Quality Time That Actually Works: No more fighting over whose turn it is or who’s cheating. Teams create natural support systems. Everyone contributes. Laughter happens organically. These are the moments you’ll remember years later.

In a world of imported games that don’t quite fit Kenyan childhood and screens that dominate family time, 50-50 Kids Edition offers something rare: a genuinely Kenyan game that educates while entertaining, challenges while supporting, and brings families together in meaningful ways.
Your kids will remember the laughter when Dad couldn’t describe “chapati” without using the word. They’ll remember the teamwork victories and the lessons learned through Report Cards. They’ll remember that family time was actually fun.
✨This is not just a game. It’s childhood done right, the Kenyan way.
